Climbers on top of the world

Seven climbers from Centrol started their climb on Ben Nevis late on in the afternoon and went on to climb Snowdon and Scarfell Pike 27 hours and 40 minutes later.

Heavy cloud, sun, rain and even snow were some of the condition that affected the team that comprised Ron Hardman, Rachel Hull, Michael Beamish, Rob Cooper, Chris Hanson-Jones, Phil Beamish and Ken Bromley.

Despite tiredness creeping in as the climb progressed, the team pressed on and achieved an impressive time that has helped them pass their £5,000 for Children’s Liver Disease Foundation.

The group wanted to help the charity that has helped Michael Beamish’s son Daniel who was born in 2004 with a rare and life threatening liver disease - Biliary atresia. Following years of treatment in December 2009 Daniel was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, the rare form of childhood Leukemia.

Michael said: “Daniel is an amazing character and throughout his treatment has been laughing and joking with nurses and doctors alike. He is strong willed and is determined to be here for years to come.

“We feel that by raising awareness and funds for the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation we can make a difference to Daniel and children like him.

“It was a fantastic achievement by the Centrol team to complete the 26-miles walk that took them for 475 miles over the country. I’d like to thank everyone who took part and all those who supported us.”

Donations for the Three Peaks Challenge Team’s achievement can be made to the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation on-line at www.justgiving.com/centrol until the end of July.
